A Couple More Gas Saving Tips
There are other things you can do to better MPG that I felt I should mention here....
After you have finished pumping, flip the nozzle upside down and click it a few additional times. You'll be getting to keep the gasoline you just paid for but that usually gets impeded in the path into your automobile's gasoline tank where it should be. If not, then the next customer gets a bonus; if that customer is me, I'll get my "in-the-line fuel" and additionally yours!
Another suggestion. If you are traveling on a downwards slope, either push in the clutch or shift the transmission into neutral and let gravity be your fuel. Watch your speedometer, and when your velocity starts to drop, or when you are getting close to the bottom of the hill, shift back again. [This tip may actually be illegal in some states.]
When headed up hill, accelerate prior to getting to the hill (safely) so you have a head start for the incline. Plus, allow your car to slow down on the hill. It may mean you climb the hill a bit slower, but you'll use less with a steady throttle.
Lastly as regards these minor tips that will help you increase your MPG a bit, if you predict traffic conditions and stop tailgating (was that you??!!!) , you can avoid needless braking and acceleration, and increase your MPG by 5-10%.
