Hypermiling Driving

What is hypermiling driving?

Hypermiling driving is the art of using different driving techniques to get more miles for your buck!

By trying hypermiling driving, it enables a driver to save gas and survive our rising gas and oil.

Things that use more gas.

The bad news is that you "speed demons" will have to work hard if you want to save gas money. It has been proven that those lead foots, fast cars, and shaking hands with the clock, may be costing you more money then you even realize.

It has been researched that the quicker you slow down and stop for red lights, and the more gas you give at take off on a green light, seriously increases your fuel mileage.

Not using your cruise control when your on the highway. Some drivers who don't use cruise control, will gradually speed up the longer they are on the road, using more fuel per mile.

Things you can do.

Keep a record of your gas millage.

By using your odometer to track miles per tank, you can develop a sense of your car's consumption over time and be able to see how your driving improvements actually increases your gas mileage.

Pay attention to your driving habits.

Do you drive faster then you need to? Do you slam on your brakes at a red light? Do you give enough space between you and other cars to allow for you to maneuver your car appropriately?

Don't just sit there with the engine running.. Traffic lights are the biggest cause of this. If you see a red light in front of you, take your foot off the gas and let your car coast up to it. Try to avoid sitting in traffic whenever you can.

Coast when you can.

the minute you see a red light on the horizon, take your foot off the petal and allow yourself to coast to a stop. I assure you, hammering the gas, slamming on the brakes, and sliding to a stop just inches from the intersection, will not save you any money.

Beware of your take off.

When the light turns green, don't stomp on the gas trying to get ahead of the car next to you blaring their country music station. Instead, slowly apply pressure to your has pedal until you make a slow and steady take off.

Hypermiling driving isn't that hard to learn. Just be patient with yourself, pay attention, and make conscious efforts to make a difference, and before you know it, you will be saving miles on your dollar!
